What did you do this past week?
This past week my group and I wrapped up phase II of our project. We definitely made use of the extra 24 hours given and it allowed us to polish up our dynamic data loading and create some more unit tests. One of my main tasks was to set up a PostgreSQL database with AWS RDS, populate it with our data according to our database scheme, and then provide samples for how to access the data for other members to populate their instance pages dynamically.
What’s in your way?
Since the last 2 weeks were much busier than this upcoming one, I do not see much in my way. I plan to take advantage of this free time to get started on phase 3 so that we don’t feel rushed by the deadline.
What will you do next week?
Next week I plan to start by meeting with my group members and working together to split up the work for phase 3. This is always useful to do as early as possible because then any issues can be dealt with in plenty of time.
If you read it, what did you think of Ethical CS?
I did not read this one yet and will see I have time to complete it after I take a coding assessment.
What was your experience of functions, lambdas, and decorators?
I thought it was interesting to see the different ways to supply optional arguments to functions and think it is very useful. I’ve used lambdas before and find them to be very concise. I’ve had some previous exposure with decorators but now I feel that I have a better understanding of their use.
What made you happy this week?
This week my 3rd roommate just bought a bike for himself. I already enjoyed taking my bike out to go around Ladybird Lake, however now that both my roommates have bikes, it is even more fun to go out with all three of us. If you are into biking or running, I recommend downloading Strava, which is a nicely designed app to track all of your routes and time progress.
What is your pick-of-the-week?
My pick-of-the-week is to check out tableau, which is a data visualization software that I think is great even for individual projects where you’re working with large amounts of data and need to visualize it easily.
