CS373 Fall 2020: Elias Lampietti

What did you do this past week?

This past week my group and I met a couple of times to discuss our refactoring updates and visualizations. I was in charge of refactoring our Home and About pages to make it look cleaner with some CSS styling so now there are shadows behind cards when you hover over them and just an overall cleaner look.

What’s in your way?

I have my other CS project due tomorrow so I’m going to have to split up my time tonight. I also have a busy week coming up with my other classes so I just need to stay focused and start early on my other assignments.

What will you do next week?

I plan to do the rest of my updates tonight, including making our site-search more robust, and then tomorrow we’re all going to meet in order to wrap up our technical report for this final phase. I’m hoping we get that done relatively early tomorrow as I have to work on other assignments due that night as well.

If you read it, what did you think of What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

I thought that it was eye-opening and awful how women receive these unwanted advances that have come to be a part of navigating their careers. I hope that articles like this one continue to expose the issue and hopefully bring about change soon.

What was your experience of refactoring?

I’ve currently been doing some front-end development for my job outside of class so I’ve getting familiar with the whole refactoring process. I do think that through the refactoring for this phase I’ve gotten a stronger understanding for the react-bootstrap framework and I find it satisfying to see the website looking cleaner.

What made you happy this week?

This week I got together with some friends to watch, The Other Guys, with Will Ferrell and Mark Walhberg. It came out a while ago but it’s always been one of my favorite comedies so that was a good time.

What’s your pick-of-the-week?

This past week SpaceX just launched 4 astronauts into space and successfully docked at the International Space Station which was a big milestone. I’m sure countless lines of code were written for software that was used for simulating and testing the whole mission before it was executed. Here’s an article with more information.
