CS371p Fall 2020: Elias Lampietti
What did you do this past week?
This past week my partner and I first solved all 3 of the Life Hackerranks. We started first with the Conway, then the Fredkin, and finally the Cell which was the most involved. We’re planning to meet up tonight to get some more of the documentation and testing done.
What’s in your way?
I also have the final phase for my other project due tomorrow so I’m going to have to split up my time tonight. I also have a busy week coming up with my other classes so I just need to stay focused and start early on my other assignments.
What will you do next week?
Hopefully, we get pretty much all the files written by the end of tonight so that we just have minor, final touches before we submit the Life project tomorrow. After we submit I plan to start reviewing early for the test that’s coming up.
If you read it, what did you think of What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?
I thought that it was eye-opening and awful how women receive these unwanted advances that have come to be a part of navigating their careers. I hope that articles like this one continue to expose the issue and hopefully bring about change soon.
What was your experience of inheritance?
I was already very familiar with inheritance and have always thought that it is very powerful, and therefore needs to be used correctly. One example that displays how you need to use it with caution is how Java’s stack inherits too many methods that aren’t supposed to be possible with this data structure.
What made you happy this week?
This week I got together with some friends to watch, The Other Guys, with Will Ferrell and Mark Walhberg. It came out a while ago but it’s always been one of my favorite comedies so that was a good time.
What’s your pick-of-the-week?
This past week SpaceX just launched 4 astronauts into space and successfully docked at the International Space Station which was a big milestone. I’m sure countless lines of code were written for software that was used for simulating and testing the whole mission before it was executed. Here’s an article with more information.
